REASONS WHY MOST HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS DROPOUT IN ZAMBIA!

The Zambian minister of Lower Education announced that schools are to be open by the 5th of August, 2021. It was announced on most social media platforms especially Facebook, only that this time, not all grades are going to start coming back but rather they are more focused on the exam classes, that is Grade 12s, Grade 9s, and Grade 7s. Surprisingly the Grade 11s have been granted to tag along, I think the reason why they have allowed the grade 11 to reopen together with the exam classes is that they really want to prep them for their final exam next year. Because most of this year's grade 12s are complaining that they haven't had much time in school thanks to the pandemic, due to this fact they have learned little or no. They fear what the future holds for them because schools have been opening and closing frequently many students have opted to just stay at home find something to do, a job, or start a small-time business in short some of them have dropped out of school.

Here are some of the reasons why they have dropped;

1. THEY WERE NOT ON GOOD TERMS WITH THE SCHOOL EVEN BEFORE THE PANDEMIC!

     While many students love being in class, some of them like being out and about, in places where they can longer control what they do or say. It is just like they say "not everything is for everyone, " but sometimes that is not the case in some instances just wanting to be different from the rest. In some slight instances, teachers make some of the students just disappear because of the threats and just picking on a student for personal rather than professional reasons. It is told that a school is there so that for once children can have a place where they are trained, taught, perfected, and supported but sometimes it is the opposite of that, forcing at least hundreds of students annually back into the street to strive and make their dreams come true by themselves.

2. OUTSIDE INFLUENCE!

     It is very hard to live a normal life because you have all these kinds of influences barking at you and sometimes it just gets too much that we tend to fall for it. That same phenomenon happens to our children when they see the things that they can achieve or better yet when they see things that celebrities have achieved they think they are just wasting time sitting on a desk for the next 5 years tops. Guidance for your children can also help them do the right thing because the world nowadays is full of shiny deceiving materials that won't last.

3. DESK FATIGUE!

     Is this even a thing? For sure it is, for the class of Grade 12s, it is quite common to hear them complaining that they are tired of sitting on that desk hearing someone called a teacher talking for twelve years. When a child has just started school, he or she has the excitement to wake up in the morning and go back to see his friends but when that child gets older the story gets different. He would rather stay home and roam the streets than attending lessons in a place where he feels controlled every time he sits on that desk.

4. FINAL EXAM!

     In the UK, due to the pandemic they did not have the final exam instead they had "GCSE", which is simply The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is an academic qualification, generally taken in several subjects by pupils in secondary education in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Now what's interesting is that this was graded by the student's teachers. Compare this to the countries which actually hosting final national exams, the students are scared because they feel they are not yet ready to write something that will determine where they will be next year, whether in college or in the streets. It's scary!

5. LACK OF FUNDS!

     While other students have been privileged with full payments of their tuition fees, many are not. In many cases, you will find that those that who have been paid do not even like being in school and their grades are a mash pit! but those who are intelligent are even struggling to buy a book. This fact also adds to the number of students dropping out of high schools across the globe.

     Furthermore, the pandemic has affected a lot of people, a lot of industries, in the same perspective schools have been hit too. It is not quite certain when students can close or open.

While there are several reasons why students are not going back to school after closing because of the pandemic, it is our responsibility to see, support, and guide them. If a child has a passion in a certain field, advice him or her to complete high school then he can pursue that field. It gets harder watching a child going astray because he thinks he is grown, it is your responsibility to see to it that, their future is perfect.

Also, some designated NGOs need to step in and do what they can, the statistics are scary!
